Jesus billboard vandalised, response varied

A billboard carrying the slogan ''Jesus: a prophet of Islam'' has been vandalised a day after it was posted on one of Sydney's busiest roads.
The billboard is one of three paid for by an Islamic group called MyPeace and features a phone number for people to call to receive a free Koran and other Islamic literature.
The organiser of MyPeace, Diaa Mohamed, said the vandalism of the billboard at Victoria Road, Rozelle, ''validates the reason they went up in the first place''.

Response to the billboards, which will be followed by bus-side and other advertising, has been mixed. Anglican Bishop of South Sydney, Rob Forsyth, said that while the claims on the billboard were nonsense, the signs were not offensive.
On the other hand, Bishop Julian Porteous, from the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, says Christians believe that Jesus "is more than a prophet".
"He is the Son of God. He is acclaimed Lord and Saviour of humanity," he said on Monday.
"In Australia with its Christian heritage a billboard carrying the statement `Jesus A prophet of Islam' is provocative and offensive to Christians."
His call for the billboards to be taken down came after one was vandalised.
Meanwhile, the Eternity newspaper (news feed below on ACN) reports that long time Pakistan missionary, John Bales, has said the billboards present an opportunity for Christians.
"It's a terrific opportunity of taking up with - both our Muslim friends and also with nominal Christians or atheists - and discussing who Jesus really is. We shouldn't take a negative reaction..."
